About Our Group

Vinnie Morton has hosted a men’s book study for several years. With membership varying from year to year. This year the group of men coalesced around two wonderful books and with each other. The decision was made to continue as a group and proactively invite others.

Two decisions were made:

  1. While expanding the audience, we believe the optimal size of a group is about 10 men. We decided to form 3 teams of men from our group to provide a core for the formation of three new small groups. This would permit a robust expression of the Pillar culture which popularly stated as a place:

    1. Where your name is known.

    2. Where your story is heard.

    3. Where your questions are honored.

  2. We decided that for our study we could use some of the material we studied last year and some of the knowledge and experience from our group. More specifically, Nigusse who did his thesis on Joseph and Skip who has done various writing for periodicals would write the study for next year. They are calling it the PIT, thinking that the pit was a time and place of transformation. As a play- on- words, we are calling our group Jos Pit Crew (hint: Skip has been in the pits at several NASCAR races and admires the teamwork there).

Format

We will meet weekly at a place(s) to be decided based on membership. The sessions will last two hours as have been our experience. The first hour will be spent discussing the book and our comments. The second hour will focus on practical applications and issues. In both hours particularly in the second hour is where our stories are heard, and questions honored.
